A LITTLE BIT   ABOUT US

WELCOME TO DUBBO MODEL RAILWAY CLUB INC WEBSITE

The Dubbo Model Railway Club (Incorporated) was formed in 1979 by a small but dedicated band of model railway enthusiasts with a small layout built in a rented shed located at the Dubbo Showground. However, after about 6 years the Club was requested to relocate. Eventually after many delays and a couple of years passing a new rental shed on the eastern side of the Dubbo Showground was found. We still remain at this site today.

Over the last 25 plus years the HO layout still continues to be developed, expanded and improved to the high standard it is has reached today. All work on the layout is carried out voluntarily by the members.

The layout is completely digital (DCC), with a small amount of track having the ability to be converted for analogue (DC) running. The digital system used is the NCE radio 5 amp. The size of the layout is very impressive with approximately 500 metres of laid track, which has been fully landscaped. At the scale of 1/87 this equates to approximately 43 kilometres of track in real life!

We are a very family orientated Club that caters for all ages, with membership numbers remaining constant. The membership categories are Junior, Pensioner, Adult and Family. Visitors are always welcome.

All members supply their own locomotives and rolling stock. Each member chooses which type of locomotive, country, state or era that they that model with. A wide cross section of steam, electric and diesel locomotives are used with a diverse range of passenger and freight wagons. Of course NSW livery is the most popular, but other states of Australia are well represented. A smaller number of members run British, European and American, and of course, Thomas the Tank and friends!

Regular fundraising activities are held throughout the year to ensure the Club meets the ever increasing financial obligations of rent, power, insurance etc, but most importantly sufficient funds to continue the improvement of the layout and the Club facilities. Fundraisers include the exhibition held at the Dubbo Show, Dubbo Truck and Tractor Show, DMRC Open Day, Lions Club Swap Meet, monthly BBQ’s and raffles. We are also very active in community service by regularly opening the doors to welcome visitors for arranged excursions or visits from schools, Burnside, Westhaven, Clubs and retirees.

The main running time is Friday night from 7 – 10 pm approximately. The Club is also open on most Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The public are always welcome and your donation towards supporting the ongoing development of our layout will be thankfully received.
